Joining Pack 73 is very easy, follow the link on our homepage, fill out necessary paperwork, and then submit the annual dues. The cost for a new member to join is $133.73, which covers 12 months of membership. Please be advised that $93.73 of the total goes to national fees and will be paid to BSA, and $40 goes to our pack and will be paid directly to Pack 73.
Unlike with most teams and organizations, BSA's Pack 73 lets you and your family "try it before you buy it". We welcome all who are interested in joining scouts to come to one of our Pack meetings, or a public event, to meet our group and see if you're a fit.
Pack 73 meets on the second Tuesday and fourth Tuesday of each month in addition to one rotating weekend event starting in September and running through May. All Tuesday Pack meetings are held at the United Methodist Church in West Houston.
The second Tuesday of the month we generally have Pack meetings. These are meetings where all the scouts are focused on the same activity.
The fourth Tuesday of the month we generally have Den meetings. At these meetings, the scouts in the different grade level defined dens meet together and work on age specific advancements.
The rotating weekend event can take the form of many different kinds of activities. Activities this last year included two camping trips, hikes, a fire truck visit, launching model rockets, and our pine wood derby.
We know many scouts have family adventures throughout the summer. But we try to keep some Pack activity going, too! During the summer, we try to have two activities each month. These activities may include game nights, raingutter regatta, or service hikes at our near by parks.
In general, each Den (grade level) meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Occasionally, den leaders will have other opportunities that will be on different dates. Den meetings are different from the pack meeting where all the scouts attend the second Tuesday of the month.
All of the Dens will meet each month aside from the Pack Meetings. Here Scouts will work on tasks specifically assigned in their Rank Books.
Den meetings are usually held at alternating Scouts homes or a collectively agreed upon location by the Den.
Den Meetings are run by the Den leaders. These are parents from each grade level that volunteer to lead the Den and make sure the Den is on track to complete advancements as outlined in the Rank Books.
All scouts that join Pack 73 will be given a Pack t-shirt, which is their Class B uniform. While the Class A uniform is encouraged, we do not require them. Scouts can wear their Class B uniform to all events. If you want to purchase a Class A uniform, you can get everything you need from the Houston Scout Shop.
